Cameroon's Version of Bobrisky Goes to Jail
Cameroon's Bobrisky, commonly known as "Shakiro", was seen today, February 10, 2021, on a viral video on social media with two others being taken to a detention facility. This decision was taken by a court in Douala.
Following article 347-1 of the country's penal code, sexual relations between persons of the same sex is punishable by law with a penalty ranging from six months to five years imprisonment, not leaving out a fine.
The December 2010 law on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime states that "anyone who makes sexual advances to a person of their sex via electronic communications shall be punished with imprisonment. This imprisonment is between one to two years with a fine of 500,000 to 1,000,0000 CFA francs.
Subparagraph 2 of this law also states that if the advances are followed by sexual intercourse, the penalties are doubled.
Cameroon's Bobrisky and Co are expected to face three years in the New Bell prison.
