Most Cameroon's vehicle owners have been harassed by the police, gendarmes, or transport officials at least once. Even though they have been instructed to educate and sensitize road users, there is no way of knowing when this illegal behavior will halt.

However, to clear the air and educate new drivers, so they do not become victims of these ever-watchful Police officers, we will give a list of car documents that every Cameroonian car owner must possess to avoid getting fined or having their vehicle impounded.

Here is a list of car documents in Cameroon every car owner should have: 

1. Driver's Licence
2. Car Registration
3. Proof of Ownership/Change of Ownership
4. Car Insurance
5. Road Worthiness Report (Visite Technique)

1. Driver's License

There is no getting around it; it is the first and most important document required by Cameroonian law if you must drive. To drive on Cameroonian roads, you must have passed the requirements and been declared mentally and physically stable by the transportation delegation. 

You must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for this license.

2. Car Registration 

The Car registration is a document that clearly shows that a car has been duly registered under Cameroonian law and, as such, complies with the various regulations that govern this act. 

The car registration contains the following information:

• Name of the car owner
• Serial number of the car (chassis number)
• Horsepower
• Mark of the car
• Model 
• Fuel type
• First-year of circulation
• Number of seats

3. Proof of Ownership/Change of Ownership (Sales Certificate)

Valid proof of car ownership is required, typically found in the car registration certificate. However, if you purchased a used car in Cameroon, you must obtain a sales certificate/transfer of ownership from the police. After purchasing your vehicle, make sure you have this document.

4. Insurance Certificate

The insurance certificate covers automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and other road vehicles. It provides financial protection against physical damage and/or bodily injury caused by traffic collisions and liability that may result. 

A car insurance certificate in Cameroon is attached with the following documents:

• Vehicle inspection sticker (Vignette)
• Carte Rose
• Free circulation in CEMAC 
• Motor accident report form 

5. Road Worthiness Report (Visite Technique)

You do not want to drive your car on the road without a certificate of roadworthiness because it is the document that certifies that a vehicle is roadworthy and can be driven on Cameroonian roads for a specified period .i.e one year.

This certificate certifies that your vehicle has met all of the criteria for being on the road in terms of safety and its measures. To obtain this, a Vehicles Inspection service would have performed an inspection on your vehicle. To overcome this obstacle, keep your cars in top condition.

6. National Identity Card

The Cameroon national ID card is an important document that every citizen must carry with them at all times. The forces of law and order in Cameroon do not take anyone seriously who does not have this document. As a result, you must keep it with your car documents.
