According to the most recent statistics, Cameroon’s crude oil production rate remains at an all-time low of just over 62,000 barrels per day as of January 2022. Cameroon is the 12th largest producer of oil in Africa and the 48th in the world, with an estimated production rate of 62,000 barrels per day. The country’s production capacity was expected to rise to about 120,000 barrels of oil per day by 2016, which would have put the country firmly in Africa’s top 10, but that target was never reached.

 Oil and Gas Companies in Cameroon

Oil production in Cameroon started in 1978, with its peak production in 1985 when Cameroon boosted a daily production rate of 186 000 barrels per day.

The National Hydrocarbons company, known by its French Acronym SNH, is the leading player in the Oil and gas sector in Cameroon. SNH promotes, develops and monitors oil and gas activities throughout the national territory. 

According to official figures, SNH contributed no less than 4 688 billion francs to the state coffers between 2010 and 2020. Between 1st January and 30th April, 8.419 million Barrels of Oil were produced.

This list of retailers and distributors of petroleum products in Cameroon is by no means exhaustive, as dozens more of these companies can be spotted in almost every locality of the country. However, we at hippotechgroup.com hope this article will better understand how Cameroon’s oil and gas sector is structured and the companies involved at different levels.

However, it is worth noting that Cameroon’s entire petroleum sector is regulated by the “Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilization Fund (HPSF)”, better known by its French acronym - CSPH. First created in May 1974 following the first global oil crisis, the structure has undergone a series of reorganizations and restructurings, with the most recent coming on 24th January 2019.
