According to the most recent statistics, Cameroon’s crude oil production rate remains at an all-time low of just over 62,000 barrels per day as of January 2022. Cameroon is the 12th largest producer of oil in Africa and the 48th in the world, with an estimated production rate of 62,000 barrels per day. The country’s production capacity was expected to rise to about 120,000 barrels of oil per day by 2016, which would have put the country firmly in Africa’s top 10, but that target was never reached.

Oil production in Cameroon started in 1978, with its peak production in 1985 when Cameroon boosted a daily production rate of 186 000 barrels per day.
The National Hydrocarbons company, known by its French Acronym SNH, is the leading player in the Oil and gas sector in Cameroon. SNH promotes, develops and monitors oil and gas activities throughout the national territory.
According to official figures, SNH contributed no less than 4 688 billion francs to the state coffers between 2010 and 2020. Between 1st January and 30th April, 8.419 million Barrels of Oil were produced.
